On Saturday, November 26, 2022, Ópera na Prisão (Opera in Prison) and TRACTION will be sharing its final embrace at the José Lúcio da Silva theatre, at 16:00 (GMT). This final event celebrates the intense work developed throughout the past two years by the young inmates and professional artists on co-creation, drama rehearsals, singing, score reading and technology, that led to the public performance of the opera O TEMPO (SOMOS NÓS)/Time (As we are).
Everyone attending the theatre on this special afternoon will have the opportunity to witness just how impactful the project has been by watching the premiére of its documentary. Technology will allow for the voices of the young inmates at the Mozart Pavilion to be heard on stage through a livestream. Their family members, the voices of Leria’s Young Prison Facility’s Choir, as well as some of the professional artists that took part on this project will speak about their own experiences.
Moreover, the technological universe will be making its presence known two hours prior to the performance, as well as for one hour after. Virtual Reality headsets will be available in the theatre’s foyer so that everyone can watch/relive excerpts from the recital of the opera O TEMPO (SOMOS NÓS) presented in Leiria in June 2022.
The ticket will cost 3€ and all proceeds will be returned to the young inmates for their expenses within the prison.
Suitable for children aged 3 and older.
This show is encompassed by the project Ópera na Prisão and TRACTION, and is organized in partnership with SAMP – Sociedade Artística Musical dos Pousos, the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Leiria’s Young Prison Facility, and is funded by the European Union’s innovation and research program Horizon 2020. It also counts on the support from Leiria’s City Council and the Union of Parishes from Leiria, Pousos, Barreira and Cortes, among many other people and anonymous institutions.
